This week is the last week of the Edublogs Student Blogging Challenge. Here are the key activities from challenges 8 to 10 that everyone should do. They can do more of course. These activities which will show us what they have grasped about blogging so far. As always encourage quality over quantity. They should do them in the reverse order as posted here :

Challenge 10

Activity 2: This is an audit of your blog since the beginning of September 2011.
  • How many posts did you write?
  • How many were school based, your own interests or set by the challenge?
  • How many comments did you receive from classmates, teachers or overseas students?
  • Which post received the most comments? Why do you think that happened?
  • Which post did you enjoy writing the most and why?
  • Did you change blog themes at all and why?
  • How many widgets do you have? Do you think this is too many or not enough?
  • How many overseas students do you have on your blogroll?

Challenge 9

In this challenge Miss W is inviting participants to show off everything they have picked up along the way. She says :

prove to your teachers that you are blogging well and showing improvements in your posts and commenting skills.
The theme is FAVOURITES this allows you lots of choice. But to show a great post to your teacher you will need to include:
  • at least three paragraphs of writing
  • an image with correct attribution
  • a link to another website where you found information

Challenge 8

  1. Activity 3: How can you increase the number of comments on your blog? Write a post about ways to get more comments on your blog. Be creative and think outside the square – can you find at least ten ways to get more visitors and comments? You might want to make a poster for this activity - glogster or notalandremember to get permission from parents or teacher to join.
  2. our game. This is another way to connect globally. Here are the instructions:
  • click on a blog on the student list – count one
  • now click on a blog from their blogroll – count two
  • finally click on a blog from that blogroll – count three

Leave a comment on an interesting post at this blog.Do this activity at least three times and finally, write your own post saying which blogs you visited and which posts you left a comment on. Why did you choose that post? Remember to include a link back to the post you left a comment on so that student gets a pingback or trackback.

Challenges 6 & 7

Below please find two word docs which are brief summaries of Challenges 6 & 7. I've also stuck up a couple of hard copies on the sixth grade noticeboard at the top of the stairs. These are very brief and they'll need to visit the website to get the full story.

With the run up to the exhibition students will be feeling more pressure on the time they have available but remember that they don't have to do all the tasks, and posts shouldn't be too long, anyway

.If you need to cover persuasive writing before the year's out you'll notice that Activity 1 of challenge 6 asks students to write using a persuasive style of writing. Activity 3 in the same challenge is interesting because it asks students to reflect on what they learn and how they learn outside school. There's also a game which involves visiting other students blogs and commenting. I highly recommend this one to those students who'd like to receive more visits and make more friends.

Finally, why not get your students to reflect on their exhibition process so far. How do they feel about their group and their choice of study? How confident are they feeling etc. They could then post updates , say, once a week. This would help them reflect on their process and be a bonus for mentors as well.

Tasks and Posts Inventory for Challenges 1 to 4

Below please find two word docs which will help your students get up to date with the four edublog challenges that have been posted so far. I have separated the inventories in two. The first one lists the posts to be written and the second the other tasks to be carried out.

There are some great examples of CCB sixth graders who are really making a go of this opportunity - they are looking forward to each challenge, writing regularly, receiving visits and comments from many countries, making new friends , developing their own voice and acquiring useful ICT skills - so come on, lets get everyone else onboard . . .there´s still plenty of time ... use the inventories and campaign it.

Links to all 4 challenges can be found at the 6th Grade Netvibes page

Challenge 2

The second challenge which is called "Heads and Feet " has now been posted. For this challenge our students will have to make an avatar for their blog and for when they leave comments. At the Edublogs students challenge site they will find links to a wide variety of avatar sites. They will need to make an avatar and then write a post describing it. After that they are invited to make avatars for their family or multiple versions of themselves and put them in a slideshow using animoto or something similar.

The second part of this weeks challenge concerns digital footprints. There is a video to watch at the site . Students will write a post about their digital footprint.
